Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

We always want to encourage devotees to preach in Russia, but our devotees should be in anugatya of Srila Gurudeva. Earlier this year I heard that Murali Mohan Prabhu was preaching in Yekaterinburg. I respect him as a courageous pioneer of Krishna consciousness in Russia. However, I became disturbed when I heard that he had taken the position of guru. I wrote to Srila Gurudeva about this as follows: One historic old Russian devotee took hari-nama and diksha from your good self, and has started an ashram in Yekaterinburg. His name now is Murali Mohan Prabhu, and he used to be Mamu Thakur. He first met you in America, and was asking for sannyasa. He and the the devotees in the ashram are chanting a lot and going on naga-sankirtan, so that's good. However, he is giving harinama and diksha initiation to devotees there, and they are his disciples. His picture is on the altar next to yours as the next in guru-parampara, and some of them regard him as the next acarya.

Srila Gurudeva replied as follows:

It will be best if you go to meet with the devotees in Yekaterinburg and help them to become proper situated in Krishna consciousness. If this particular devotee that presents himself as my representative wants to initiate devotees, no one can stop him but you should inform the devotees that I have not ordered him to do so. He can initiate anyone he likes but he is not my representative and should not place his picture in parampara following my picture. I have not ordered him to do so and wish that he should cooperate with all of you in order to give proper help to all the local devotees. It is very easy to be guru but I want that first he should become disciple, following his Gurudeva and accepting sadhu-sanga. Otherwise everything he does will result in chaos.

Srila Gurudevas instructions speak for themselves. If you would like to discuss this further, please write to me at [email protected]

Best wishes,
Jnanadasa Vanacari
